SUPERSHOW in North Bay Ontario!September 11/12 2004 | |
|
SUPERSHOW staff and Racing Team member Ken Livingstone made the trip up to the Vintage Road Racing Associations annual 'Runway Romp' September 11/12 2004 to participate in the final round of the VRRA's championship series. The event, held on a temporary circuit constructed on two runways of the former NORAD air base, is a popular year-end destination for the racers and their families. The noon parade through town on street and race bikes, and the evening dinner cruise on Lake Nippissing Saturday make it stand out as a season ending social event as well. Ken competed in the VRRA's Period 4 Formula One class aboard his beautiful Ducati 851 Superbike, and also raced his faithful old Suzuki T-350 twin in the Period 2 Lightweight category. Ken has been campaigning the Ducati all year and was leading the class championship entering this race.

Ken won the P4 F-1 heat race Saturday, putting him on the 'pole' for the Sunday final. He elected to only run a few easy practice laps on the very different two-stroke Suzuki, not wanting to jeopardize the season's efforts on the Ducati. In the Sunday P4 F-1 final, Ken led for the first two laps, before losing the lead while working past lapped riders and settling for a 'safe' second place. Second in this final race of the year was more than enough to clinch the class championship. In the last race of the day riding the Suzuki, despite gridding at the back of the pack due to not entering the Saturday heat race, Ken managed to work his way up to a respectable fourth place, a good result and a nice way to end a very successful year that saw him traveling thousands of kilometers and racing on 5 different tracks across Canada.
