SUPERSHOW Racing wins at Mosport Vintage Festival!
|
SUPERSHOW Racing riders and staff members Peter Derry and Ken Livingstone made the top two spots on the podium at the 2004 Vintage Road Racing Association Mosport Festival Races. This event is the team's biggest annual effort, with many weeks of planning and preparation going into it.

The annual VRRA Mosport Festival, one of the Premier Vintage racing events in the world, attracted over 200 riders from Canada, the U.S.A, and Great Britain. One special feature this year was the appearance of former Canadian Grand-Prix star Michelle Duff, who rode demonstration laps on a Yamaha Grand Prix machine similar to ones she raced many years ago. Noted Yamaha restorer Dave Hughes prepared the bike especially for this occasion. This event also featured possibly the largest number of sidecar racing 'rigs' that has ever been on the track in Canada at one time. Teams from as far away as California made the trip to Mosport. The sight of almost 30 three-wheeled racers roaring down the track was spectacular!

Team riders Peter Derry and Ken Livingstone were entered in the Period 3 Heavyweight and Period 4 Formula 1 classes respectively. Peter rode the ex-Lang Hindle KZ1000 Superbike from the SUPERSHOW Collection with which he set the track record on in 2003, while Ken rode his Ducati 851 Superbike that he has been campaigning throughout 2004. Peter, almost matching his lap-record time in the process, fought a close battle with one of the best vintage racers in Canada, Fergus Warwick and ended up second by only a few bike lengths. Ken won his race handily on the big Ducati twin, moving into first place in the series championship.

Peter and Ken were also team mates in the prestigious Endurance race held Friday afternoon, riding the KZ1000 Superbike of Bob Beal as part of the 'Army of Lardness' team. The bike ran great, with the team finishing a strong second place. As is their custom, afterwards the Team consumed massive amounts of delicious food cooked by Team owner Bob and his sister Lorie. SUPERSHOW also brought additional historic Canadian Superbikes from the SUPERSHOW Collection out for display; Art Robbins' Suzuki GS1000, Pascal Picotte's 888/926 Ducati World Superbike, Wes Cooley's (and later Art Robbins) Suzuki Katana 1000, Reuben McMurter's Honda VF750R Interceptor and Jon Cornwell's Suzuki GSXR750RR.

Additionally, friends of SUPERSHOW including noted collector Ed Vaillencourt and Robert Caldwell brought other classic machines into the display such as Ed's NSU OSL250, and Robert's very rare MZ175. Many others dropped by to say hi and enjoy the event as well. The weather was perfect and there were lots of things to see and do including Demo rides with Honda and Buell and the popular noon Parade laps for charity. It's always one of the best vintage events to attend each summer. The VRRA is to be congratulated for another great Festival!
